Nearly 150 youth in grades 8-12 participated in the fifth annual 4-H Connect Retreat at Iowa State University and Clover Woods Camping Center. The spring retreat connects youth to 4-H while celebrating Latino, Native American, Asian, African and Asian/African American cultures.
Fifty Iowa 4-H members were recognized for their 2019 state 4-H project awards at the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. A project area is a broad topic that 4-H members can explore on their own or with the mentorship of a 4-H leader or other caring adult.
The 2019 Iowa State Fair promises to be a record-breaking year for 4-H livestock entries. This year, 8,750 entries have been pre-entered by more than 2,300 Iowa 4-H exhibitors.
The Iowa State Fair offers more than just an opportunity for 4-H members to exhibit their projects; it offers exhibitors the chance to create and build lifelong friendships and connect with a community of people who believe in them.

During Healthy Living Day, Iowa State Fair visitors were able to take part in a number of activities to generate interest in learning how to have fun and be healthy.
The International Harvester Collector’s Club Award Program recognized Iowa 4-H members for their state fair project achievements on Aug. 9. Youth whose projects advance to the Iowa State Fair have the opportunity to apply for the award program.
Youth visiting the 4-H Exhibition Hall at the Iowa State Fair had the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities during this year’s STEM event hosted by Bayer. Events such as this keep youth interested in STEM activities and stimulate a yearning to learn why things work and to ask questions about the improbable.
