AMES, Iowa – Apple pie on-a-stick, ultimate bacon brisket bombs and kernel klusters are a few of the foods new to the Iowa State Fair this year. So, when the craving for a new or favorite Iowa State Fair food strikes, how long will it take to find a location selling it? A few seconds – that’s all! Because there’s an app for finding state fair food.
Even with nearly 200 food stands and nearly 70 scrumptious items on-a-stick, there’s an app to guide Iowa State Fair visitors on their quest to find new and longtime favorite state fair foods.
The Des Moines Register partners with the Iowa State Fair to provide a Fair Food Finder app compatible with all Apple devices. The app's functionality also is available as a mobile webpage for non-Apple users.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach provides nutritional information for the app, along with the number of calories associated with food items, and amount of physical activity needed to burn off the tasty, delectable treats.
The Fair Food Finder app will be on display at the Iowa State University exhibit in the Varied Industries Building Aug. 15 – 17. Look for the cardinal and gold tent tops of “Camp Cy – A Statewide Adventure” and stop by the special guest area to download and personalize the app or mobile webpage.
Then take in the adventures of Camp Cy
Along with traditional Iowa State favorites– Cy tattoos, football posters, Cyclone merchandise and sports trophies – state fair visitors may explore Camp Cy through four CyclONE City statues and activities showcasing the many ways ISU Extension and Outreach is Iowans’ 99-county campus. Ride a virtual roller coaster, play in a stream, go on a bug hunt, save monarch butterflies or meet an astronaut.
Each day special guests and activities demonstrate Iowa State’s outreach across Iowa and ISU Extension and Outreach’s community involvement. Pick up and complete the letter-to-Cy card to enter the drawing for an Apple Watch.
