Iowa Farm to School and Early Care Conference Is June 18-19 in Waukee

Registration now open and workshop proposals are sought

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Farm to School and Early Care Conference​ will be held at Timberline School, in Waukee, Iowa, on June 18-19.​ Hosted by the ​Iowa Farm to School and Early Care Network​, ​the conference will bring together farm to school and farm to early care stakeholders from across the state for two days of learning, sharing, networking and movement-building.

farm to school.Conference workshops, a keynote address and an evening social will take place on Thursday, June 18. Field trips and deep-dive courses will be offered on Friday, June 19. The goal of the conference is to support and inspire those interested in starting or already leading farm to school and farm to early care programs across the state.

“The conference is for anybody working directly with farm to school communities or early care communities centered around food education or local food procurement,” said Chelsea Krist, farm to school coordinator with Farm, Food and Enterprise Development with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. “There is so much interest in the early care field and we’re excited to really highlight that sector of the field this year.”

Attendees will include educators, food service professionals, school administrations, early childhood professionals, farmers, wellness and public health professionals, student leaders, community organizers, policy makers, family advocates and others who support farm to school and early care efforts.

Workshop topics include cafeterias and kitchens (local procurement strategies and farmer partnerships), classroom (integrating food education through hands-on learning), and community (partnerships and collaboration).

The planning team is currently accepting breakout session proposals from all types of presenters, including educators, students, food service staff, early care professionals, farmers, state agencies and others. ​The proposal deadline is March 27.
