Dordt College and Iowa State University to Host Joint Field Day Sept. 6

AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University joins with Dordt College’s Ag Stewardship Center Sept. 6 for a field day to review the growing season and prepare for next year.

Field Day Photo in Corn"We are highlighting research that is particularly relevant to protecting soil resources, managing nutrient loss and herbicide resistance challenges producers have in our area," said Gary De Vries, Dordt College’s instructor of agriculture.

Dordt College is part of Iowa State’s On-farm Cooperator Trials project, which conducts research in farm cooperator’s fields. Iowa State Research and Demonstration Farm and extension staff coordinate the research projects.

The field day begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and farm tours start at 6:15 p.m.

The field day’s scheduled presentations include:

  • Solutions to Water Quality Issues, by Colton Meyer, West Branch of the Floyd River Watershed Project coordinator
  • Why Protecting Soil Resources Is Important:  A view from below, by Joel DeJong, extension crop specialist
  • Dicamba Resistant Soybeans: What have we learned this year, by Ron Geis, sales manager for DuPont Crop Protection

Dordt’s Ag Stewardship Center is located 1 and 2/3 mile north of Pella Corp. at 3648 US 75, Sioux Center.
