The Iowa 4-H dairy quiz bowl competition was held June 15 in Arlington, Iowa. Forty-five youth competed in this educational contest conducted by Iowa State University Department of Animal Science and ISU Extension and Outreach.
More than 200 youth from 58 Iowa counties participated in three skill-a-thons at the 2017 Iowa State Fair. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach held skill-a-thons for goat, sheep and swine.

The 2018 state 4-H meat judging contest was held at Iowa State University Meat Laboratory on Aug. 25 to determine Iowa’s representative to the National 4-H Contest held during the American Royal, Kansas City, in October.
Youth in grades 7-12 are invited to attend Beef Blast at the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center in Ames, Iowa. The focus of the Dec. 1 program is general beef management with youth participating in a variety of hands-on workshops that cover meat science and selection.
A training session for livestock judging coaches will be held on April 20 at the Hansen Agriculture Learning Center in Ames. The session is designed for adults who are interested in learning how to coach a youth livestock judging team or want to improve their livestock coaching skills.
