Farmland Values
December 13, 2018

After a reprieve in 2017, commodity prices, interest rates and trade disruptions drove Iowa farmland values down for the fourth time in five years. The average statewide value of an acre of farmland is now estimated to be $7,264. This represents a decrease of 0.8 percent, or $62 per acre, from the 2017 estimate. Land values were determined by the 2018 Iowa State University Land Value Survey.

Montgomery County 4-H youth are invited to participate in a new and exciting workshop focused around sewing tips and techniques on March 22 and March 23 at the Viking Center in Stanton.

The strawberry beds are covered with mulch, chicken wire is around the young trees and the hybrid-tea roses are covered with several inches of soil and straw for the winter. Next gardening task is to store supplies and tools for the winter. Horticulturists with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach offer a few late fall storage tips.

Over 160 youth participated in the 2016 county fair and we are gearing up for another great year ahead.  We are pleased to present you with wonderful sponsorship opportunities. We recognize our sponsors play a vital role in the overall success of 4-H and FFA at the Montgomery County Fair year after year. Therefore, we have developed a sponsorship program including different levels to fit all budgets.

The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Montgomery County received a $1,000 grant for its Beginning and Young Agricultural Producers program. Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica) provided the Working Here Fund grant to support a yearlong educational program focused on the business end of farming.

Walking School Buses and Afterschool Programs will kick off on Wednesday, April 5th for youth in Red Oak. The Walking School Bus program is available to youth enrolled in 4th – 8th grades.
