Garden Seed Saving (Oskaloosa)

Come learn about saving garden seed to use in future years from current garden crops on October 8 at 6:30 pm at the Mahaska County Extension office, 212 North I Street Oskaloosa. Master Gardener Krysta Wendelboe will be giving this encore presentation. 


Garden Seeds are often saved by home gardeners.  It is a great way to have seed for a loved garden crop and save money.  Come learn which seeds to save, and which to not to save; as well as techniques.  Krysta actively saves lettuce, herb, tomato, bean and pea seeds.


Mahaska County Master Gardeners are celebrating their sixteenth year.  The local program organized after the county held their first training.  The educational volunteer program, sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, provides current, research based, home horticulture information and education to the citizens of Iowa through programs and projects.  Master Gardeners receive horticulture training, and volunteer to promote a mission of education and service.  The program is open to anyone 18 or older with an interest in gardening and a willingness to use their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to make a positive impact on their local community.

Yoga for Gardeners Spring is a high-impact time in the garden, yoga can help with the wear and tear caused by repetitive physical activity in the garden. The Mahaska County Master Gardeners are hosting Veronica Grim, as a speaker on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 7:00 pm. She will present “Yoga For Gardeners”. Her presentation will be held at the Mahaska County Extension Office, 212 North I Street Oskaloosa. Veronica has taught Yoga at the Book Vault and YMCA for many years; she is certified through the American Council on Exercise (ACE), has 500 hours as a Registered Yoga Teacher and has been trained through YogaFit. Come learn about the movement and postures of yoga, and learning about a practice to use before and/or after your landscape beautification efforts.

Earthworm Casting Speaker The Mahaska County Master Gardeners are hosting a Earthworm Casting /Vermicomposting (composting by worms) speaker on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. Traci Dow-Wyatt and Michael Wyatt are co-owners of Central Iowa Organic Fertilizer, a small family owned and operated business in Indianola, Iowa.
