Blank Park Zoo’s Plant.Grow.Fly.  and partners are pleased to announce the 2017 Monarch Festival! The Festival will be held at Blank Park Zoo on Sunday, September 17 from 12-4 PM. https://www.blankparkzoo.com/events/calendar/monarch-festival 

The Festival will highlight the miraculous migration of the monarch butterfly and will offer everything from traditional Mexican dancing, puppet shows, monarch tagging and habitat education to free seeds (limited supply) to start your own butterfly garden. We will even have a Bug Parade - so dress the kids up in their favorite insect costume!

Pollinator Habitat Management Field Day

Free event in Cherokee, Iowa.


This field day will begin with a visit to a newly seeded plot of pollinator habitat.   Next, we will visit existing plots in their 2nd and 4th year since planting.  Local wildlife biologists will be speaking about establishment and proper maintenance, i.e., mowing, spraying, and the signs that indicate a healthy stand of native forbs and grasses. We will end our field day by returning to The Grainery and eating a meal provided by Nichol’s Smokin’ BBQ while the local NRCS and FSA staff answers any other questions the group has. RAGBRAI Milkweed Seedball Initiative

Come to Glenwood for a presentation by Kelly Guilbeau from the Milkweed Matters RAGBRAI team. Kelly will provide a presentation on the RAGBRAI Milkweed Seedball Initiative, a grass roots conservation effort to restore habitat for the threatened Monarch butterfly. She will talk about why the Monarch butterfly is threatened and how important Iowa and the Midwest are for helping the Monarch butterfly survive their epic migration to Mexico. She will discuss the status of Monarch butterfly populations, describe the RAGBRAI Milkweed Seedball intiative, and educational outreach throughout communities in Iowa.

Pollinator Field Day (Orange City)

The program will run from 2:30-3:30 p.m. and includes a field tour of the monarch and pollinator habitat planted at Prairie Ridge Care Center (1005 7th Street NE, Orange City, Iowa).
