 The Iowa State University Organic Agriculture Program invites you to experience the 16th Annual Organic Conference on Sunday evening, November 13 and Monday, November 14, 2016 in the Iowa Memorial Union at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. The conference will feature roundtable discussion and an organic luncheon, as well as information from keynote speaker Fred Iutzi, President of the Land Institute. Workshops on a wide variety of organic crop and livestock topics will also take place.

Each participant gets two apple rootstock (EMLA7 free standing semi-dwarf) which they self-graft and take home with them.  If they want to bring in some of their own scion wood that is fine as well.  Ideally it should be harvested before third week of March.  It should be new growth from previous year and be somewhere close to pencil thickness in diameter.  For more detail see:

Fee structure is $35 per person or $60  for couple ($30 for any two or more registering together and includes 2 rootstock for each person).  Additional rootstock will be available for a cost of $5 each.  We will need at least  12 people pre-registered.

Gardening enthusiasts won't want to miss the Johnson County Master Gardeners (JCMG) 11th annual Garden Sale and Flea Market on Saturday, May 12, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Iowa City. 

Proceeds from the annual JCMG Plant Sale and Flea Market support 4-H Awards, Kirkwood Community College Horticulture Scholarships and JCMG programs and operations.


Winter Forum (Iowa City)

Please join us next Sunday, January 12, at 2pm at the Iowa City Public Library, where Johnson County Conservation Naturalist Kristen Morrow will address prairie plants and pollinators. A native of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Morrow grew up exploring the banks of the Cedar River. The Iowa State University alum studied Environmental Science, wetlands, streams and river health. She worked as a backpacking guide/naturalist in New Mexico, for a watershed restoration organization in northern Idaho, and in Iowa for The Nature Conservancy traveling restoration crew. She also worked as a naturalist in northern Minnesota before settling in Johnson County.
