Pollinator Habitat Management Field Day

Free event in Cherokee, Iowa.

This field day will begin with a visit to a newly seeded plot of pollinator habitat.   Next, we will visit existing plots in their 2nd and 4th year since planting.  Local wildlife biologists will be speaking about establishment and proper maintenance, i.e., mowing, spraying, and the signs that indicate a healthy stand of native forbs and grasses. We will end our field day by returning to The Grainery and eating a meal provided by Nichol’s Smokin’ BBQ while the local NRCS and FSA staff answers any other questions the group has. Home Demonstration Garden Field Day - Rock Rapids

Turfgrass Field and Demo Day (Ames)

The field day will begin with check-in from 7-8 a.m. Educational sessions will begin at 8:15 a.m. Each content area will feature five topic demonstrations provided by Iowa State faculty and researchers.

Pesticide applicator training sessions begin at 10 a.m. with continuing instructional credits offered to certified pesticide applicators for recertification of commercial or private licenses in categories 3O, 3T, 3OT and 10. Golf Course Superintendents Association of America continuing education points also will be awarded.

An insect, disease and weed identification tour will be held prior to lunch, which will be provided by Hickory Park. Demonstrations by exhibitors will be held from 10:15-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.

The Iowa State Horticulture Research Station is located at 55519 170th Street, Ames, Iowa.


Fruit and Vegetable Field Day

Iowa State University’s annual Fruit and Vegetable Field Day on Aug. 7 will feature research and demonstration projects on fruit and vegetable production for commercial growers, extension personnel, non-profit organizations and master gardeners.
