Community Food Systems 4th annual event is set for January 12 at the ISU Alumni Center, 420 Beach Avenue, Ames.
This daylong event lifts up best practices around the region within all areas of community food systems. Come learn, engage, and discuss ways to promote community engagement, collective action, and food systems projects including edible landscapes, food hubs, shared-use kitchens, and more.

Orchid Fest February 10 & 11, 2018 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Join Reiman Gardens for the annual Orchid Fest. Exotic orchids in a variety of species and colors will be on display and available for purchase both days. The Central Iowa Orchid Society will also staff a question and answer booth, providing both novices and experienced growers valuable insight on care and keeping of orchids.
While at Orchid Fest, visitors can also discover live butterflies from around the globe in the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing, explore the tropical Hughes Conservatory, and browse the Gift Shop bursting with unique and sustainable items.
Free for members and ISU students.
The general public pays $8 for adults, $7 for seniors ages 65+, $4 for kids ages 4-17, and free for kids ages 3 and under.

Sinister Plants February 22, 2018 6-8 p.m.
There are many interesting botanical deviants all over the world and many that are toxic in one quantity are medicinal in others such as Digitalis, a common garden plant. Hear from Director Ed Lyon about those most likely found in your home and garden; you may be astounded at the number you have never realized possess defenses that may either poison or harm people or pets. Preregistration with prepayment is required by Tuesday, February 20.
