How to prune trees

Come to hear a presentation in Glenwood from Gabbi Edwards, Urban Forester with Iowa State University Extension will provide a presentation on best practices for how to correctly prune trees including hardwoods, fruit trees and shrubs. Additional topics include why pruning is important to prevent hazard trees, diseases and pests, when to prune, and general cutting techniques. Attendees are encouraged to bring photos of their existing yard and Gabbi will answer questions as time allows.

Gardening Study School, Course III, Series 11, sponsored by Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, April 7 (8:15 am.-4:15 pm.) and April 8 (8:15 am.-12:15 pm). Courses are open to the public and can be taken in any order. Topics will be Pruning, Factors Influencing Plant Growth, Techniques for Growing Outdoor Flowers, Classifying Plants, Teaching Tour on the Grounds of the Arboretum and Xeriscaping. Testing is available to work toward the Gardening Study Consultant certificate. Master Gardeners qualify for 10 hours continuing education for the course.
