Explore Seed Savers Exchange Heritage Farm in the springtime during our Spring Garden School! During this half-day workshop, you’ll learn how to start seeds, how to plan your garden for seed saving, and how to get started composting. We’ll also teach you all about some of the easiest crops to plant for seed saving, including tomatoes, beans, and lettuce.

This popular event will be hosted on the same day as our Heritage Plant Sale.


  • 10:00 am - Starting and Transplanting Seeds
  • 11:00 am - Planning your Garden for Seed Saving
  • 12:00 pm - Lunch
  • 1:00 pm - Seed Saving Crops for Beginners
  • 2:00 pm - Introduction to Composting

Earthworm Casting Speaker The Mahaska County Master Gardeners are hosting a Earthworm Casting /Vermicomposting (composting by worms) speaker on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. Traci Dow-Wyatt and Michael Wyatt are co-owners of Central Iowa Organic Fertilizer, a small family owned and operated business in Indianola, Iowa. They will talk about their operation, which produces OMRI Listed worm castings.
