Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting the 2018 Fruit and Vegetable Field Day on Monday, Aug. 6, 2018 at the Iowa State University Horticulture Research Station near Ames. The annual event will feature various research and demonstration projects on fruit and vegetable production for commercial growers, extension personnel, non-profit organizations, and Master Gardeners.
We’ll start with a tour of our garden greens which include kale, spinach, collards, mustard greens, Swiss chard and Asian greens. Then, we’ll talk about how to grow greens and protect them from pests. We’ll end the night by learning why greens are so important in our diet and enjoy a tasty green salad. The Linn County Master Gardeners have partnered with Old MacDonald's Farm and would like to invite you to the new Growing Classroom at Old MacDonald's Farm! These hands-on workshops are for all ages. Bring your kids and learn everything you need to know about gardening at home; no matter how little space you may have. Snacks from the garden will also be part of the classes. Children age 2 and under are free. Family $5.
