There are many interesting botanical deviants all over the world and many that are toxic in one quantity are medicinal in others such as Digitalis, a common garden plant. Hear from Director Ed Lyon about those most likely found in your home and garden; you may be astounded at the number you have never realized possess defenses that may either poison or harm people or pets. Spring Pruning Workshop March 1, 2018 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Join Sarah Rummery, Reiman Gardens’ Manager of Horticultural Operations, and Sharon Rink, Reiman Gardens’ Horticulturist, for an informative and hands-on workshop designed to familiarize you with all the W’s of early spring pruning, including fruit trees! Learn what, when, where, how, and why to prune, and put your knowledge to practice outside in the Gardens! Please bring a pair of gardening gloves (preferably leather), and dress to work outdoors! Portable and Accessible Gardening March 6, 2018 6-8 p.m.
It is important to consider our own physical health when designing garden spaces. Director Ed Lyon will discuss trends in low-impact gardening, from creating portable (movable) gardens, to raised beds for accessibility, and limited space gardening. These classes are perfect for avid amateur gardeners and plant enthusiasts, aspiring horticulture professionals, horticulturists, garden designers, landscape architects seeking professional development, and Master Gardeners looking for continuing education credits. There are no prerequisites and you are welcome to take one or all the classes each year.
