The ISU Extension and Outreach Master Gardeners of Scott County will present ‘Growing Along the River’ Focus on Fall, an all-day conference with presentations about landscaping and gardening in Bettendorf. Keynote speaker, Rick Darke, is a landscape design consultant, author, lecturer, and photographer based in Pennsylvania who blends art, ecology, and cultural geography in the creation and conservation of livable landscapes.  He will give two talks.  Attendees will also be able to select an additional four classes with expert speakers on topics such as gardening with conifers, smartphone photography, Bonsai, Orchids, designing seasonal containers and many more.

Moth-ers Day (Davenport)

On Saturday, July 28, the Iowa State University-Scott County Extension Master Gardener program will join forces with the Nahant Marsh Education Center, 4220 Wapello Ave., Davenport, to present its 4th annual Moth-ers Day celebration. The family-oriented learning event will begin at 8 p.m. with an hour-long lecture.

Then participants will go outside to see what moths have been attracted to white sheets lighted by ultraviolet lights. The UV lighting will continue until midnight.

National Moth Week Celebration

Celebrate National Moth Week at Nahant Marsh in Davenport with a presentation by Moni Hayne. Moni is author of the e-book, “Garden Insect Pests: Pictures for Identifying and Organic Controls” and is an expert in the field of entomology. Light snacks and beverages will be provided, so advanced registration is recommended. There is no fee for this program, however, donations are welcome.


The lecture will begin at 8:00 p.m. followed by black-lighting at 9:00 p.m. and concluding by midnight.

Plant Sale & Pollinators' Palooza (Bettendorf)

Starting at 9:00 AM, you can tour the Pollinator Garden and buy plants grown by local Master Gardeners. The Palooza opens at 10:00 AM. Learn about the importance of pollinators, what threatens them, what you can to attract them, and what you can do to help them survive. Children will enjoy hands-on activities. Watch Flight of the Monarchs in 3D. Visit the onsite Hort Clinic to find answers to your gardening questions.
