Garden Spiders and Other Insects

Saturday, July 9, 2022 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Event Type:

What Good are Spiders? and other Common Garden Insects

Join the Scott County Master Gardeners in a creepy-crawly class about spiders and insects that can be found in the area. It will take place at the Scott County Extension Office, 875 Tanglefoot Lane, Bettendorf on Saturday, July 9 at 10:00. It is free and open to the public. Live and preserved specimens will be available for viewing.

Professor Emeritus Ken Cramer will explain what, exactly, is a spider, and what the heck are they doing in my garden? We'll examine basic spider biology; anatomy, behavior, diversity, and ecology in an effort to answer common questions about these fascinating and often feared creatures. What roles do spiders play in a garden? Are there venomous spiders I should be concerned about? And more.

Local Master Gardener and climatologist Ray Wolf will cover insects that have been hot topics in our Hort Clinic over the years.
