2024 Seeds For Thought Garden Symposium - Newton

Just in time for spring, the Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach 2024 Seeds for Thought Garden Symposium will be held on March 23 from 9 am—3 pm at the DMACC campus in Newton.
This educational event will offer a variety of presentations on topics that are sure to match any gardener’s interests and provide a fun day of learning for gardeners of any experience level. Gardeners (or gardening hopefuls!) can learn and grow their skills with a keynote educational presentation and breakout sessions.

Meagan Anderson, Iowa State University Extension Agronomist is the keynote presenter and will be sharing “Can We Beat the Weeds?” 

Breakout session presenters include: Anne Evans, Veronica Grim, and Lois Harris Mahaska County Master Gardeners “Growing and Using Herbs: You Can DO That!”; Jonita Boyer, Tassel Ridge Winery “Grapes in Iowa”; Guy Gibson, Arborist “Is My Tree Safe In My Yard”; Randall Vos, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Commercial Horticulture Specialist “Fruit Cultivars of Iowa” and “Relieving Spring Container Design Anxiety”; Jeff Hafner Early Morning Harvest “Aquaponics”; Marla Mertz, Marion County Conservation Naturalist, “Jeweled Dancers-Our Real Life Dragons and Damsels”; Rachel Tan, Production Horticulturist, Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden “Plant Propagation for the Home Gardener”; and Boulder Ridge Farms “Creating a Garden or Farm with a Purpose”.

The registration fee is $50 and includes: the keynote presentation, variety of breakout sessions and lunch. The registration deadline is March 15. After March 15 registration will be $65.
