Mahaska County 4-H Workshops, Clinics, & Classes


Workshops must have at least 5 RSVPs to be held.  Cost to attend workshops is FREE, unless noted otherwise. 
Workshops will be held at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach office in Oskaloosa unless noted otherwise. 
Workshops are open to any Iowa 4-H Member; however, many workshops will cover Mahaska County-specific rules and details. 

Workshops require at least 5 RSVPs by the deadline in order to be held.
2020 Horse Clinics & Ride Nights
Clinics & Ride Nights will be held at 6:30 PM unless notified otherwise.

February 4 - Clinic: Rules - NO HORSES
March 3 - Tack Clinic - NO HORSES
TBD April 7 - Clinic: Halter/Showmanship with horses
TBD April 21 - Ride Night
TBD May 5 - Clinic: Western Pleasure
May 19 - Ride NIght
June 2 - Clinic: Trail
June 13 - Regional Invitational Show
June 16 - Ride Night
July 7 - Clinic: Speed Games
July 14 - Ride Night
These events are being offered by the Mahaska County 4-H Horse Superintendents and will be held at the Outdoor Arena on the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds (northwest of the racetrack) at 6:30 p.m.
Any 4-H or FFA member planning to exhibit horses, ponies, mules, or donkeys at the Southern Iowa Fair are required to complete at least 1 clinic and 2 ride nights.  Alternative option is to attend another PRE-APPROVED clinic or ride night and submit a write-up with pictures.  Full details can be found in the December 4-H Newsletter.

2020 4-H, FFA, & Clover Kids Dog Classes

Dog Classes are held at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds on the dates listed from 6:00-7:30 PM.
First class is April 27th - DO NOT BRING DOGS.  Sessions in April & through May 9 are TBD. 
Class schedule (bring dogs) is:
      May 4, 11, 18, 26
      June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
      July 6, 13
Fair Show - July 20 at 5:00 PM
Clover Kids Dog Classes will begin on May 11.
First year DOGS must attend at least 8 classes.
2nd+ year DOGS must attend at least 6 classes.
