Dear Mahaska County 4-H & FFA Swine Exhibitors,

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping safety as our top priority, the Swine Superintendents and 4-H Staff have decided to cancel the 2020 Swine Weigh-in scheduled for Saturday, March 28.  Unfortunately, this will cancel the Derby Swine Show for this year’s fair.  The Swine Superintendents are working to rewrite swine classes for the Southern Iowa Fair.  As swine classes are revised, they will be posted to our website.  Pigs must weigh 60 pounds or less as of March 28.  There is no upper weight limit for market pigs this year because there is no derby class.  Below are instructions for identifying your swine for the county fair.

4-H Exhibitors - Visit https://iowa.4honline.com, login with your credentials, then click on Edit to the right of the exhibitor’s name.  On the screen that opens, click on the Animals/Livestock tab near the top of the profile page.  Once on the Animals/Livestock page, selected Swine (NOT Weighed In) from the dropdown list.  Identify each pig to the best of your ability – Ear notches are required.  If your pig has a breeder or farm tag, please use those digits in the Tag line.  Be sure to include the Sex & Colors and Markings on each identification form.  Remember, you may only identify 6 individual pigs and an additional 6 pigs for the Pen of 3 class.  Only three individual pigs can be exhibited at the fair and only one Pen of 3 can be exhibited at the fair.  Be sure to Save each entry and complete by the end of the day on Friday, May 15, 2020.

FFA Exhibitors – Visit https://www.extension.iastate.edu/mahaska/page/livestock-exhibiting-information and scroll down to FFA Animal ID & FFA Swine ID 2020.  Complete the Excel spreadsheet, one for each animal, and submit to the Extension office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2020.

We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding in these unprecedented times.

Thank you,

Amy L. Brainard, Mahaska County Youth Coordinator
