After a nationwide search, John Lawrence has been appointed vice president for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Lawrence, who has been serving as interim vice president since March 2017, previously served as associate dean in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and director of extension and outreach. He will begin serving in the permanent role immediately.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Region 13, is seeking qualified candidates for one (1) Human Sciences Specialist position to be filled at the Field Specialist I or II level. The position will focus on Family Finances within Human Sciences, which includes family finance education, financial literacy, money management strategies, and family resource management. The position will promote Extension engagement and education with individuals, families and communities.

The third annual Iowa Small Farms Conference will be held on February 10, 2018, at the Scheman Building at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Speakers will highlight topics that include farm finances, hops production, gardening, wildlife habitat, beekeeping and much more. Offering a wealth of information on a wide variety of topics, the goal of this one-day conference is that attendees gain valuable insight on enterprise options and acreage management strategies.

The series will begin on Monday evening, Feb. 5, and meets over four consecutive Monday evenings – Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26, at the DMACC West Campus, 5959 Grand Ave, West Des Moines. Registration is due Jan. 29.

WINTERSET, Iowa -- Just two sessions remain in this year’s Greenhorn Grazing series in southern Iowa, and organizer Joe Sellers said people who want to attend are encouraged to register soon for accurate meal count. Cost is $20 per session, payable at the door. Sessions are set for Tuesday, Sept. 26 and Tuesday, Nov. 14. Both sessions begin at 4 p.m. at the ISU Extension and Outreach Madison County Office, located at 117 N. John Wayne Drive in Winterset, and include a pasture walk at a local farm.
