Private Pesticide Applicator Continuing Instruction Course

In-Person Private Applicator Continuing Instruction Courses (P-CICs) provide Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship-Pesticide Bureau-approved training for individuals who are currently certified as a private pesticide applicator. P-CICs are offered from December 1st to April 15th each year. Applicators who choose to maintain their certification by attending an approved P-CIC must attend a program during each year their certification card covers, including the year they passed the exam (if certification occurs prior to October 1). If a P-CIC is missed in one or more years of their three-year cycle, the applicator is required to take the certification exam through IDALS to renew their certification.

Renewing Your Certification

Option 1

One way to renew your certification (recertify) is to attend a private applicator Continuing Instruction Course (CIC) each of the three years during your renewal cycle.

Check the mailing label for your certification number and expiration date.

December 31, 2023 Expiration:
Attendance at CIC programs in 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 and attending a CIC program between December 2022 and April 15, 2024 qualifies you for recertification.

December 31, 2024 Expiration:
Attendance at a CIC program in 2022–2023 and attending CIC programs in 2023–2024 and 2024-2025 qualifies you for recertification.

December 31, 2025 Expiration:
If you wish to recertify by training and not by exam, you must attend a CIC program each year, starting with the 2023-2024 program year.

Option 2

A second way to recertify is to pass the certification test every three years. If you miss one year of CIC programs, Iowa law requires you to retest when your certification expires. The exam is given by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS).
