OBJECTIVE: Iowa 4-H and the County Youth Program Educator will focus on Positive Youth Development (PYD). Staff will strive to work with all youth, volunteers, and professionals to plan, implement, and evaluate a progressive series of educational programs and experiences that work toward multiple life skill outcomes (productive citizens, outstanding communicators, effective leaders, and successful learners). This position should empower youth to reach their full potential through Youth Adult Partnerships and research-based experiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of work based on locally identified needs which will lead to improved quality of living for youth and adults, in partnership with Youth Program Specialist and County Extension Council.
- Develop partnerships to implement vetted, educational curriculum-based youth development program including following five program priorities areas: (1) STEM; (2) Communications and Arts; (3) Healthy Living; (5) Leadership and Civic Engagement, advancing Iowa 4-H mission and vision.
- Provide leadership and volunteer coordination of 4-H County Fair activities as they relate to K-12 youth, while maintaining positive relationships/partnership with County Fair Board and volunteers.
- Develop and implement county recruitment and support/training strategy for volunteers that represent the local community.
- Develop and implement recruitment and retention plan to bring underserved youth from entry-point activities into long-term involvement in
4-H. - Assure compliance with risk management policies, including required training and background checks of volunteers.
- Establish and maintain 4-H governance committees.
- Promote 4-H state and county programs, events, and activities, working with local partners and media.
- Communicate effectively and build relationships with Youth Program Specialist, County Extension Council, youth, families, volunteers, other extension staff and community partners.
- Represent Iowa State University, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, local county 4-H and Iowa 4-H, professionally and positively.
- In partnership with Youth Program Specialist to collect data and share county impact with County Extension Council and community partners to ensure program growth and effectiveness.
- Develop funding through partnerships, donors, grant funding, fundraising, and tax support through County Extension Council to ensure adequate financial resources for youth programming.

SALARY & BENEFITS: $20-$24/hr based on qualifications and experience. Health Insurance Benefits and IPERS.
SUPERVISOR: County Director
REPORTING: Reports directly to and receives direction from the director with input from the county extension council. Program reporting is to the Iowa 4-H youth program specialist.
