4-H Summer Day Camps

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Linn County 4-H offers educational and interactive summer day camps for youth throughout our community. Our educators utilize research based practices to provide fun and educational experiences for your kids. Limited number of spots are available for each camp, registration opens March 1st!

Registration fee is $30 per one day camp. Participants should bring a lunch for each camp day. Snacks and all activity supplies are included. We offer quality, affordable programs and don't want cost to be a barrier - financial assistance is available.

Cancellation & Refund Policy: Please contact linn4h@iastate.edu if you need to cancel your program registration. A partial refund will be offered if cancellation is received more than 2 weeks prior to the program start date. Refund will be the camp cost - $5 processing fee. If cancellation is made less than 2 weeks before the program start date, no refund will be given. 

2024 Summer Day Camp Descriptions

Art Explosion (K-2nd graders)

Spend the day being creative with all kinds of art! We’ll make a mess as we explore art around the world. Youth will use their imagination as we travel the world to learn about different art techniques and cultures. Youth will leave with beautiful creations as we explore painting, sculpture, slime, photography, and high-tech art with 4-H. 

Robo Loco (K-2nd graders)

Learn the basics of coding and try to conquer challenges with our 4-H Bee-Bots. Youth will work with new friends at 4-H camp to help get our robots, Dot and Dash, out of trouble during this introductory coding and robotics camp!

Fizz, Bubble, Goo (K-2nd graders)

Come and explore the wonders of science by creating amazing chemistry experiments with everyday materials to watch them fizz, bubble, and goo. Youth will learn about matter and its three states, make slime, and observe chemical and physical changes before their very eyes at this 4-H day camp!

Planting Curiosity (K-2nd graders)

At K-2nd grade Planting Curiosity 4-H day camp, we will discover the origins of food and explore the processes that plants depend on to grow and thrive. Through hands-on activities, youth will learn about Earth’s resources all around them. You might just have to plant a garden after this camp!

Outdoor Explorer (K-2nd graders)

Explore the great outdoors at this fun 4-H day camp for K-2nd grade youth! Indoor and outdoor activities including nature exploration, art and nature, and more will make this a day you won’t want to miss. Enjoy time working as a team with new friends as well as individual activities all about nature and the outdoors.  

Art Innovators (3rd-5th graders)

Art is everywhere and can be made with unexpected materials! Join us at this 4-H Day camp to learn new art techniques, explore the elements and principes of design, and exercise your creativity. 

Robo Challenge (3rd-5th graders)

Meet our 4-H robots, Dot and Dash, and their Bee-Bot friends, and help them navigate tricky situations. Youth will put on their problem-solving hat and learn how to code their way through an exciting challenge.

NASA Astro Camp (3rd-5th graders)

NASA Astro Camp® is an opportunity for youth to get involved in and experience Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) -- and to learn more about space with NASA unique activities. Astro Camp® is a great way to help youth foster career dreams of tomorrow and develop life-changing goals through Next Generation science, math, and engineering skills!   

Growing Curiosity (3rd-5th graders)

At the 3rd-5th grade Planting Curiosity 4-H day camp, participants will discover unique plant processes and learn more about natural resources. Youth will experience hands-on learning opportunities and cultivate a new love for plants and the environment. You might just have to plant a garden after this camp! 

Outdoor Adventures (3rd-5th graders)

Explore the great outdoors at this fun 4-H day camp for 3-5th grade youth! Indoor and outdoor activities including fishing, nature exploration, teambuilding activities, hikes, crafts, scavenger hunt, campfire food, and more will make this a day you won’t want to miss. Enjoy time working as a team with new friends as well as individual activities all about nature and the outdoors.  

On Their Own & OK (4-6th graders)

This is a workshop that helps build skills, maturity, and confidence in youth to safely stay home alone. Topics include: 

  • Ideas for rules and a basic schedule for when your child is home alone.  
  • Choosing and making basic, healthy foods on their own.  
  • Knowing the procedure if someone comes to the door when you’re gone. 
  • Management techniques for the ever-present squabbles that occur between siblings. 
  • Handling emergencies such as weather, safety, and basic first aid.  

This workshop does not certify your child is ready to be home alone. Your child will have fun during this hands-on workshop & leave our workday with a family workbook to guide you through discussing expectations together.
