How to get participate in the 4-H Broiler Chick Project
- Sign-Up Deadline May 1st! 4-H members please sing up using the link through 4-H Online. FFA members please email otter@iastate.edu with the subject "Broiler Chick"
- Youth can order a minimum of 5 birds and a maximum of 10 birds per youth.
- If you have questions about ordering or would like to order a different quantity please contact us at 319-377-9839.
- May 15th - Deadline for completing YQCA and have at least one pen of three meat birds in FairEntry
- May 9th 6:00pm Location TBD - Attend Meat Bird pick-up and education for success.
- Please bring a small cardboard box with bedding already in it to transport your chicks to their new home. At home, have a space ready for your new chicks with a heat lamp and water ready to go.

What you can expect to learn from completing this project
- Increase your knowledge of the poultry project area, animal stewardship, and meat production within a safe, mentored environment
- Gain a better understanding of the local food system in Linn County
- Get to know HACAP Food Resevoir as you work in partnership with the organization
- Learn more about food insecurity in our community
- Help improve access to fresh protein at HACAP food pantry sites
- Gain a sense of accomplishment as you master this project area and generously serve and contribute to your community
