*State Fair Retinal Images will be done here in Jones County. Please have your animals needing Retinal Imaging at the fairgrounds between 8:00-9:00 a.m.

2021 Great Jones County Fair
• 4-H/FFA Derby Lambs being nominated for County Fair
• 4-H/FFA Market Lambs being nominated for County Fair
• 4-H/FFA Meat Goats being nominated for County Fair

2021 Iowa State Fair
• FFA Market Lambs & Meat Goats being nominated for State Fair
• 4-H Market/Performance Lambs being nominated for State Fair
• 4-H Meat Goats being nominated for State Fair MUST weigh in at the Jones County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 24, between 8-9 a.m.

***REMEMBER***
Besides weighing in the Derby lambs, ALL Market Individual Lambs MUST be ear tagged at this Spring weigh-in site. Market lambs WILL NOT be weighed.

***SCRAPIE ERADICATION RULES STILL IN EFFECT***

Be sure to place your tag order in plenty of time prior to the fair, as they take 3-4 weeks to arrive. These tags will be required for exhibition at the Great Jones County Fair.

Paperwork
1. All Identification forms MUST be completed at the site.
2. Signatures are required this year. 
3. New this year families will enter their own 4-H animal data into 4hOnline 2.0. All data must be entered into 4hOnline by May 15th! Contact the Extension Office IMMEDIATELY with any concerns. FFA members will still use paper copies. 
 
Reminder: May 15th is a Saturday this year! Our office closed at 4:30 pm on Friday, May 14th. 

County Fair Derby Lambs and Meat Goats:
All major rules, guidelines, and information regarding identification and weigh-in for your county 4-H/FFA lamb and meat goat projects are included in the current “Livestock Project Requirements.” Please read appropriate sections carefully.
 
The number of derby individual lambs per exhibitor:

  • • Nominate/weigh-in up to 4 wethers in Spring (no ewes)
  • • Exhibit up to 2 derby lambs at fair

The number of market individual lambs per exhibitor:

  • • Nominate up to 30 market lambs (total of Derby and Market Individuals) in Spring
  • • Exhibit up to 4 market individuals 

The number of market meat goats per exhibitor:

  • • Nominate/weigh-in up to 10 wethers in Spring (no does)
  • • Exhibit up to 6 market meat goats at fair

Breeding sheep, breeding meat goats, dairy goats and specialty goats for the county fair DO NOT have to come to this weigh-in, but MUST be identified through 4hOnline 2.0 (4-H) or on paper ID forms (FFA) by May 15.

There is a charge of $1.00 per ear tag for all market animals weighed-in/nominated for the county and/or state fair.

State Fair 4-H Market/Performance Lambs and Meat Goats:
At the spring weigh-in, ALL market lambs and meat goats that are to be eligible to exhibit at the Iowa State Fair MUST be identified/verified. Each 4-H’er is allowed to nominate up to 30 lambs and 10 meat goats for the State Fair.

The cost for nominating each animal for the State Fair will be $7.00. (This is in addition to the ear tag fee mentioned above).
