Hortline answers questions! We also keep the slots filled in the “Seasonal Horticulture” section of the information board in the lobby area of the extension office.

The questions that we answer are received by phone, emails and dropins. We send out answers by phone, emails, in person, and regular mail. We find out answers through our library collection of books, online from state extension services or other credible sites, our own knowledge, and/ or the in-office professionals in the extension office. We have such a variety of questions. The categories on our daily information sheet include: trees/shrubs, flowers, vegetables/small fruits, weeds/pests, houseplants, lawn, general information, and other.
Our statistics (January through December) include 2,252 hours of volunteering (this= the hours we set up x the number of people working). It does not include the administrative hours of our co-chairs. We had 159 contacts with the public. This is only the contact, as most people asked 2, 3, even 4 questions that we needed to answer.
