Objective

- The position provides assistance to the Extension Council, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach (ISUEO), and to the Regional Extension Education Director for organizational and delivery of day camp programs.
- The Position requires knowledge of ISUEO, County Policies, skills in written and oral communication, skill in delivery of a wide variety of topics relating to 4-H and STEM education, healthy choices, gardening and nutrition.
- The Monroe County Summer Intern will help plan and execute day camp programs, provide 4-H program and county fair support throughout the summer.
- This job will include some evenings, weekend and additional over time hours.
Responsibilities
-
- Plan, prepare for and implement summer education and day camp programs.
- Provide 4-H program and assist in planning, organizing and implementing fair activities throughout the summer. These include but are not limited to clothing and communication events, livestock shows, and other youth activities.
- Demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of children and an appreciation of different learning styles
- Develop marketing tools and advertise programs, using both print and online marketing methods
- Provide evaluation tools for educational programs
- Well organized and responsive to kids’ needs
- Work cooperatively with other adults as well as with children
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

- High School diploma
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Employment contingent on successful screening in First Advantage Background Screening program
- Educational background and experience in education or youth development preferred.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision from professional staff & supervise volunteers
- Ability to work as a team in a fast paced team atmosphere to develop and deliver programming
- Strong verbal/written communication skills & ability to effectively communicate with all age groups. Ability to work with technology a must
- Organizational skills, multi-tasking capabilities and the ability to achieve deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
-
- This position is seasonal, running for up to 12 weeks from the middle of May to early August. 40 hours per week, paid at $12 per hour.
- This position will involve considerable bending, sitting, standing and reaching, supervising recreation (primarily outside), and other activities as planned or assigned
- Ability to work outside in the summer weather, for up to four hours at a time
- Ability to be around farm livestock and other animals for extended periods of time
- Lifting of 30lbs. or less on occasion

- Is accountable to the employer, the Monroe County Extension Council, Regional Director supervises this position. Programmatic supervision is provided by the County Youth Coordinator and the Youth Program Specialist
