Objective

The AmeriCorps Member’s role is to work for the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Lucas County to provide local youth educational programming. Lucas County Extension is looking for qualified candidates to support ISU Extension and Outreach efforts to provide positive youth development programming, assist the County Youth Coordinator with work as provided, support volunteers with their work, assist with preparation and implementation of Lucas County Fair 4-H activities, and build positive relationships with volunteers, youth, and partners. This position is for 300 hours and is based on a flexible schedule dependent on youth programming needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist County Youth Coordinator to organize scheduled programs, deliver day camps and work shops in June and July, administer evaluation materials, and implement youth events at the Lucas County Fair.

• Prepare press releases, program brochures, schedules, mailings, and other informational materials in support of youth programs.

• Complete planning process for youth programs, including familiarizing oneself with curriculum for program facilitation, shopping/ordering supplies, printing copies, preparation of physical site, and administration of parent and youth evaluations.

• Manage registration process and maintain attendance records and medical/release forms as necessary.

• Assist with recruitment of adult and youth volunteers.

• Carry out planned activities to recruit youth to join 4-H.

• Coordinate efforts to report other youth activities externally to the community and highlight opportunities for Iowa 4-H members.

• Present a review of activities member participated in and completed during the 300 hours

Qualifications

• Capable of taking direction and working independently

• Energetic, imaginative, self-starter who works well in a fast-paced environment

• Strong written and verbal skills

• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, and other databases

• Experience in public communication

• Ability to work a flexible schedule

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in 4-H programming or youth development preferred

• Two semesters of post-secondary education preferred

• Experience in managing groups of 15-20 youth preferred

Requirements:

• Submit a cover letter, resume, and three professional references

• Must be at least 17 years of age

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

• Ability to lift 35 pounds

• Ability to pass a background screening
