Objective

Iowa 4-H and the County Youth Coordinator (CYC) will focus on Positive Youth Development (PYD). Staff will work with youth, volunteers, and professionals to plan, implement, and evaluate a progressive series of educational programs and experiences that work toward multiple life skill outcomes (productive contributors, outstanding communicators, effective leaders, and successful learners). This position should empower youth to reach their full potential through youth-adult partnerships and research-based experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance the Iowa 4-H mission and vision.
  • Develop and implement a year-round county recruitment and retention strategy for 4-H volunteers.
  • Assure compliance with risk management policies, including required training and background checks of volunteers.
  • Promote 4-H state and county programs, events, and activities, working with local partners and media.
  • Collaborate with local partners to implement and deliver youth programming:
    • In-school and after-school programming
    • 4-H workshops (i.e. food & nutrition, livestock, etc.)
    • Clover Kids series for Kindergarten – 3rd grade youth
  • Communicate effectively and build relationships with the County Extension Council, Fair Board, youth, families, volunteers, other extension staff and community partners.
  • Represent Iowa State University, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, and Iowa 4-H professionally and positively.
  • Collect and share county data to ensure program effectiveness. 
  • Manage social media presence for Humboldt County 4-H.
  • Work with Regional Director on annual budget.

Additional Information

This is a full-time position at 40-hours a week, located in the Humboldt County Extension Office. Hours will vary according to planned events, which could include days, evenings, weekends, and/or overnights. Programming will often take place outside of the office; therefore, travel will be required to reach youth and families. Personal vehicle required; mileage to be reimbursed at the current IRS rate.

SUPERVISOR:  Regional Director

REPORTING:  Reports directly to and receives direction from the director with input from the county extension council. Receives program coordination consultation from the Iowa 4-H youth program specialist.
