The Early Childhood Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Consultant/Coach (EC-PBIS Consultant) provides training, consultation and coaching services related to the implementation and maintenance of three tiers of social/emotional/behavioral support in Southeast Iowa childcare homes and centers. (Remote opportunity within counties served)
- Work with the SE Iowa EC-PBIS Team on continued refinement of a sustainable system of policies, procedures, assessments, and practices of EC-PBIS implementation within 10 counties of SE Iowa: Des Moines, Henry, Iowa, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, Van Buren, and Washington counties.
- Collaborate with other EC-PBIS Consultants/Coaches to learn and utilize best practices in training, consultation, coaching, program assessment, and functional assessment of child behavior.
- Collaborate with Child Care Resource and Referral and the State EC-PBIS team to coordinate services, which are IQ4K approved.
- Provide module-based PBIS training and individualized coaching to childcare staff.
- Develop and execute training in specialty areas.
- Support childcare program teams to implement and sustain three tiers of support.
- Observe and provide consultation at both the program and child-specific service levels.
- Provide direct consultation and coaching service for children with serious emotional disturbances and their families.
- Make appropriate referrals and offer follow-up to ensure families receive support needed.
- Consult with interagency teams, schools, and community organizations.
- Accurately, quickly, and courteously receive and document contacts, services, and referrals in order to provide required quarterly and annual reports.
- Participate in job-related training sessions and seminars.
- Attend required staff meetings (virtual or face-to-face).
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Training
Behavior Analyst Certification or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology or a related field, with extension experience in areas of early childhood teaching/administration/supervision, adult education, consultation, coaching, and/or mental health/behavioral support.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability
- Knowledge and education regarding developmentally appropriate practices and developmental milestones.
- Knowledge of implementing EC-PBIS in early childhood programs; knowledge of promoting social-emotional development in children.
- Knowledge of screening and assessment processes.
- Knowledge of, and skills to address, circumstances that affect children's behavior and mental health.
- Knowledge of a consultative model of practice; and available resources and services to children and families to alleviate family stress.
- Possess excellent organizational skills
- Possess excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
- Ability to communicate using technology.
- Possess cultural sensitivity and demonstrated competency in age specific behaviors.
- Ability to collect data, maintain accurate records and prepare clear and concise reports using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Ability to maintain objectivity and confidentiality.
- Able to drive within the SE Iowa area; possession of a valid state driver's license.
Education and Training
Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
Remote opportunity. Candidate must be within driving distance of counties served. Position timeframe is June 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024. Term appointment with continuation contingent with funding.
