The Department of 4-H Youth Development with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is seeking qualified candidates for a Field Specialist – 4-H Youth Development within the counties of Appanoose, Davis, Jefferson, Van Buren, and Wapello.
The Field Specialist will provide direction for the 4-H Youth Development program in Southeast Iowa through working to build the skills of adults (county staff, volunteers, and partners) to successfully create, implement, and evaluate youth programs that help meet the 4-H mission of: “Empowering youth to reach their full potential through youth-adult partnerships and research based experiences.” To meet this mission the 4-H Youth Development Field Specialist will work with county and state staff to develop and carry out innovative youth programs, to identify, recruit, and retain youth from new and diverse as well as traditional audiences, to create an environment of inclusion and a sense of belonging for youth from underrepresented groups, to identify and form new community partnerships to recruit and train volunteers, and serve as a liaison between county and state 4-H programs.

This position will be filled at the Field Specialist I or II level. In addition to Field Specialist I duties, a Field Specialist II will create and deliver comprehensive and complex programming; conduct needs assessment activities; identify and implement creative ways to meet clients’ needs; take an active role in the development of programming; and provide leadership/supervision and subject-matter expertise at the local, area and state level.
