Objective

This position works with the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Clay County team to provide delivery of 4-H youth programming in a K-12 format. The position will work with youth, volunteers, and professionals to plan, implement, and evaluate a progressive series of educational programs and experiences that work toward multiple life skill outcomes (productive citizens, outstanding communicators, effective leaders, and successful learners). This position should empower youth to reach their full potential by planning, implementing, and evaluating research-based educational experiences to all youth in Clay County.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and deliver educational programs such as camps, events, workshops, and outreach experiences.
  • Plan, organize and deliver Clover Kids (K-3) programming.
  • Assist with implementation of the Ag-Citing and Sci-Citing programs at the Clay County Fair.
  • Develop and implement a year-round county recruitment and retention strategy for diverse community and corporate volunteers.
  • Attend meetings and collaborate with other youth and community organizations.
  • Develop and implement a year-round county recruitment and retention strategy to bring diverse youth from entry-point activities into long-term involvement in
    4-H.
  • Communicate regularly to inform participants, families, volunteers, and the community of events and opportunities for youth.
  • Assure compliance with risk management policies, including required training and background checks of volunteers.
  • Communicate effectively and build relationships with the County Extension Council, youth, families, volunteers, other extension staff and community partners.
  • Represent Iowa State University, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, and Iowa 4-H professionally and positively.
  • Collect, analyze, and share county data to ensure program effectiveness. 
  • Implement programs in accordance with state and federal guidelines and policies and share with volunteers and community partners.
  • Administer evaluations and share impacts with County Extension Council and partners.
  • Work with County Extension Council to ensure adequate financial resources are secured.

SUPERVISOR:  Regional Director and Clay County Extension Council Personnel Committee

ABOUT THE POSITION

  • Position will be based at the ISU Extension and Outreach Clay County office located at 1515 West 18th Street in Spencer, with some travel necessary for events and programming.
  • Typical work hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, but are flexible for programming needs, including some evenings, weekends, and overnights, not to exceed 40 hours per week.
  • Wage negotiable based on education and experience. Benefits available including IPERS, health insurance and paid holidays.
  • Mileage and other approved travel expenses will be reimbursed monthly at the IRS rate.
