Objective

The 4-H County Youth Coordinator works with youth, volunteers, and other Extension and Outreach staff to provide day-to-day planning management of the Cedar County 4-H program, including all activities related to the Cedar County Fair. The 4-H CYC will carry out Youth and 4-H program organizational tasks and assist with the delivery of the 4-H program in Cedar County, operating under the supervision of the Regional Director with programming supervision by the Youth Program Specialist.

Responsibilities

ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT FUNCTION:

  1. Manage 4-HOnline data, including membership enrollment, volunteer tracking and required reporting. 
  2. Respond to phone, email and other correspondence regarding the 4-H Youth development Program and serve as the point of contact for all 4-H inquiries.
  3. Coordinate the preparation, publication, and distribution of the monthly 4-H newsletter, including a yearly calendar of important events and deadlines.
  4. Provide ongoing support and organizational assistance as requested by 4-H Clubs.
  5. Organize and manage all 4-H materials and supply inventory.
  6. All other duties as assigned.

VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT:

  1. Recruit and screen volunteers for various roles and responsibilities
  2. Manage Volunteer data, training requirements, and evaluation using 4-HOnline.
  3. Organize volunteer training and directly train on specific county organizational tasks.
  4. Serve as point of contact, resource and support to volunteers, youth committee, and project committees in conducting assigned tasks and programs.
  5. Use best practices of ISOTURE in support to volunteers.

PROGRAM PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION

  1. Promote 4-H, Clover Kids and county, regional and statewide events and activities.
  2. Organize and deliver county and multi-county 4-H events and activities.
  3. In coordination with the 4-H Team, assist with the implementation and mobilizing of available resources for the county action plan.
  4. In coordination with the Youth Program Specialist assist in development and monitoring of program budget.
  5. Gather, prepare and delegate as appropriate, information to submit to media regarding events, activities, and members.
  6. Participate in the assessment of programs for quality, growth, and innovation.

COUNTY FAIR COORDINATION:

Serve as lead Extension staff in coordination of all 4-H activities at the Cedar County Fair by:

  1. Identifying, supporting, and managing use of volunteers, superintendents, judges, and other various roles.
  2. Prepare and review 4-H sections of the Cedar County Fair Book.
  3. Serve as liaison with Cedar County Fair Board in the preparation of the grounds, buildings, and fair program/schedule.
  4. Serve as on-site contact and resource during the Cedar County Fair.
  5. Manage awards coordination including ordering trophies, coordinating premiums and show programs.

EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Use of good interpersonal skills to solve problems and work with the public.
  2. Follow all policies of the county as stated in county handbook.
  3. Assist and participate in other Extension activities as appropriate.
  4. Participate in professional development opportunities.
  5. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Regional Extension Education Director, Extension Council, County Extension Office staff as well as Field Specialist serving designated Extension areas.
  6. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other groups and organizations, public and private, which cooperate with and are affected by 4-H and youth programs in the assigned geographic area.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

  1. Passion to work with volunteers and youth using a Positive Youth Development framework
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work with persons from various backgrounds and cultures
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Word, MS Excel, Internet and E-mail applications, data management
  4. Access to reliable transportation, valid driver license
  5. Be approved through required background screening
  6. Ability to work flexible hours.  The successful candidate will be expected to successfully manage their schedule including regular evening and weekend meetings. Attendance at the Cedar County Fair, annually.
Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. 3 years of relevant work experience
  2. Bachelor’s degree or combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position
  3. 2 years’ experience or knowledge of volunteer management
  4. Experience or knowledge of Positive Youth Development
  5. Experience organizing events and activities
  6. 4-H experience as a youth member or leader preferred.
