4-H and Youth Summer Assistant
• START/END DATE: on or about May 20, 2024, to early August 2024 as determined by the hiring manager - may flex based on the applicant’s schedule and office workload. Summer, temporary position, 30 hours per week for 10 weeks (maximum of 300 hours). Application packets will be accepted through February 29 at 4:00 pm or until filled. • Reports to: ISU Extension and Outreach Cedar County – K-12 Outreach Educator
• Location: 107 Cedar Street, Tipton IA 52772
• Compensation: Hourly commensurate with education and experience.
• Wage Range: $10-$12 per hour

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:
• This position will plan, conduct, evaluate and report summer programs for youth Preschool – 8th Grade ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Will have a primary focus on office support and coordination/communication for Cedar County 4-H and summer outreach education programming for youth in Cedar County.
• Support Cedar County Fair preparation, activities, and events at the Cedar County Fair through July.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with youth and parents of youth participants.
• Support summer youth programming such as day camps and other youth outreach events through the summer.
• Will assist with organization, planning, and teaching research-based curriculum to Kindergarten-8th grade youth in day camp settings and perform general office duties.
• Maintain regular contact and communication with county staff and supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma
• Must be able to be approved under ISU Extension child protection policy with a background check.
• Interest in working directly with youth and leading educational activities.
• Ability to be around farm livestock for extended periods of time and work in outdoor conditions for several hours.
• Must be available for the Cedar County Fair prep and events (July 8 through July 14)
• Computer literacy required (MS Office including Word, Excel, Online database systems, fluent with e-mail programs).
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere with minimal supervision.
• Problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and multitasking capabilities.
• Ability to complete scheduled tasks on time.
• Effectively communicate with all age groups. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Licensed driver and access to a vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:
• 2 years’ post-secondary studies or equivalent experience in youth development, education, public relations or related fields required.
• 4-H background either as a member or volunteer preferred.
• Experience working directly with youth.

Additional Information

Reporting of Activities:
• The Summer Youth Assistant will attend regular staff meetings and work closely with the County Youth Coordinator, K-12 Outreach Educator, County Families Coordinator, Regional Director, and volunteers. Accountable to Cedar County Agricultural Extension Council and all its policies.


Employment:
• Starting wage: $10 - $12/hour for up to 300 hours. (30 Hours per week for 10 weeks) Must be available for the scheduled hours the week leading up to and including county fair.
• Mileage for personal vehicle use in the performance of approved duties will be paid at the current Cedar County travel allowance rate.
