To prepare for and manage the 4-H Food Stand at the Butler County Fair in collaboration with Extension Staff.
Do advance preparations for 4-H Food Stand:
- send out sponsor letters
- complete necessary paper work
- update menu
- contact sources of products and place orders and pick up
- determine standard serving sizes and acquire appropriate utensils for uniformity of serving
- clean and set up kitchen and dining area
- establish and enforce sanitary procedures for all kitchen workers
- stock the feed shed prior to fair
Keep a detailed accounting of all:
- receipts (follow approved procedure when handling money
- equipment inventories and purchases (beginning and ending)
- orders (quantities and deliveries)
Manage Food Stand volunteers, both youth and adults:
- delegate appropriate volunteer tasks including food preparation, serving, dishwashing,etc.
- report accidents, injuries, or serious complaints to the Extension Staff immediately
- post rules and procedures
- check to be sure shifts change
Be present at Fair:
- open the feed shed each day starting the coffee and any hot items including popcorn
- be present for food inspection
- work the first shift everyday
- be in attendance at Food Stand during Food Stand hours, especially during shift changes (or find approved adult volunteer or Extension staff to be in attendance)
- get/replenish supplies throughout the day
- close each day washing dishes and restocking the coolers
- set up popcorn for the Friday evening concert
After Fair:
- take inventory of all equipment and supplies; put in file for next year
- assemble records into an activity report, including inventories and suggestions
- The ability to organize and manage tasks
- The ability to manage people
- An interest in youth and their development
- Capacity to deal with the situation and take action
