Objective

Position is responsible for working with the Adams County Extension staff to facilitate research-based programming throughout Adams County. Intern will develop lesson plans utilizing research-based curriculum provided by Extension. This individual will be responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating lessons to the youth. Intern will be expected to help with Adams County Fair as needed. Assist office staff as directed. Must be reliable, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and work well with kids. 

Responsibilities
  • Create detailed lesson plans utilizing research-based curricula 

  • Organize supplies and equipment for programs as scheduled by County Youth and Outreach Coordinator 

  • Communicate with host-site coordinator as needed 

  • Chaperone youth on field trips, day camps, and conference/retreats as needed 

  • Prepare for county fair: process entries and organize materials 

  • Assist with daily county fair events 

Qualifications
  • Enjoy building positive relationships with youth and adult clients 

  • Comfortable speaking and presenting publicly to groups 

  • Able to work independently or on a team 

  • Reliable transportation daily with ability to travel within Southwest Iowa 

  • Successful completion of Child Protection and Safety Program/background screening 

  • Possess computer skills including email, internet, Microsoft Office programs 

  • Maintain close working relationship with staff, volunteers, partners 

  • Well organized and capable of managing duties and schedules 

  • Available during the entire Adams County Fair, pre- and post- weeks  

  • Able to lift 40 pounds 

Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of college completed 

  • Knowledge of 4-H Program, specifically program priority areas: STEM, Healthy Living, Arts and Communication, and Civic Engagement & Leadership 

  • Experience preparing youth-centric lesson plans 

  • Experience with formal and informal education settings 

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing 

  • Ability to work with youth and the general public
