Extension Information Technology (EIT) provides support for hardware, software, and network infrastructure for ISU Extension field and campus staff. Hardware should meet minimum support standards; software should be on our supported software list. In addition to the materials linked here, we provide telephone support (EIT Computer Support Hotline), email support (firstname.lastname@example.org), and remote assistance. Updates, alerts, and current news items can be found on the news link, Tech News
There are several reasons computers supported by EIT need to be in the IASTATE domain:
Luggage is a platform for creating websites, targeted at academic websites for departments and researchers.
The platform is built on Drupal and consists of features that come with configuration. For example, the People feature contains a prebuilt content type appropriate for displaying a group of people divided into subgroups of your own choosing (faculty, staff, etc.) along with a view. Here's an example.
The goal is to quickly leverage common use cases so that web developers can be empowered to get sites up and running quickly but maintain the ability to customize features or add additional features.
ISU Extension IT maintains the servers used by most of Extension's web sites. In addition to the main site at www.extension.iastate.edu, we manage the hardware that runs Ag Water Management, Conference Planning and Management, Iowa Association of County Extension Councils, and many other virtual sites.
ISU Extension & Outreach follows university policies and procedures for information technology. In addition, EIT has certain specific procedures for setting up and using computers, accessing networks and handling other information technology issues in Extension and Outreach.
The Extension Information Technology Building is located in the Extension 4-H Building Suite 1180.
