How to Backup My Data On Local HDD

There are several ways to backup your files. Here we will go through backing up via CyBox and external media such as flash drives or external hard drives.

Finding your files

The most common folders for your files to be located are in the following locations: Desktop, My Documents, Downloads, My Pictures, My Videos, and My Music. All of these folders are contained in each user folder which can be found at C:\Users\<your Net-ID>/

Once your files are located, you can decide which means of backing up you'd like to choose. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Using CyBox keeps your files in the cloud so you can access them on any device that has an internet connection and will back up the saves you make to the files in CyBox. CyBox, being in the cloud, means that you cannot misplace your backed up files. An external or flash drive means constant access to the files regardless of internet connection. External media also is faster than CyBox which can save time if there are many files to back up or your location has slower internet speeds.

To backup your files to CyBox, open an internet browser and navigate to and sign in with your Net-ID and password. Once signed in, choose the red Upload button and choose Folders. Now you can navigate to your files to back up and press OK. Your files should begin uploading to CyBox.

External Media

To backup your files on external media, navigate to the drive and copy the files you are backing up. It may be helpful to put the files a folder on the drive and name it something that indicates to you that it contains your backup. It may also be useful to indicate the date of your backup in case you backup more than once and find you need a file from a certain date.
