For Immediate Release

Private Pesticide Applicator Recertification Trainings rescheduled for Hardin and Wright Counties

Clarion- Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Angie Rieck-Hinz will host four Private Pesticide Applicator recertification trainings in July and August 2020. The original training dates in March were canceled earlier this spring due to COVID-19, at which time the recertification deadline was extended to September 30, 2020.

Rieck-Hinz says that the following trainings are being planned to allow for social distancing and appropriate precautions and applicators should be aware that if conditions change due to COVID-19, alternative plans may be put in place.

  • Tuesday, July 21, 7-9 pm. Hardin County Fairgrounds, Community Building, Eldora. You must pre-register by calling, 641-648-4850, at least two days in advance of the meeting.
  • Wednesday, July 22, 3-5 pm. Memorial Hall, Eagle Grove. You must pre-register by calling 515-532-3453, at least two days in advance of the meeting.
  • Wednesday, July 22, 7-9 pm. Memorial Hall, Eagle Grove. You must pre-register by calling 515-532-3453, at least two days in advance of the meeting
  • Wednesday, August 5, 7-9 pm. Hardin County Fairgrounds, Community Building, Eldora. You must pre-register by calling, 641-648-4850, at least two days in advance of the meeting.

Rieck-Hinz encourages individuals to register early as there will be only 60 people allowed at each session in Eldora and only 25 people allowed at each session in Eagle Grove to conform with social distancing requirements. Participants are encouraged to bring a mask and wear it. Each participant will be required to follow all social distancing requirements, a break will not take place, food will not be served and paperwork will be completed in advance to minimize exchanging paperwork between staff and participants. If you are not registered, you will not be allowed to attend. If you feel sick, please respect others by staying home.

Individuals who do not feel comfortable attending large group gatherings should contact their local ISU Extension and Outreach office to set up an appointment to view the recorded private pesticide training video in their county office.

Rieck-Hinz said that all private pesticide applicators who did not complete continuing education prior to April 15, 2020, were given an extended deadline of Sept. 30, 2020. The trainings scheduled for July and August are intended to enable producers to meet that Sept. 30 deadline. However, Rieck-Hinz reminds applicators that they will still need to attend an upcoming 2020/2021 private pesticide applicator continuing education course beginning in December if they choose the option of continuing education for their required annual continuing education.
