Iowans Can Sign Up for Remaining Eco Family Conference Sessions

AMES, Iowa – There is still time to register for the remaining Eco Family Virtual Conference sessions. Families can save money on household expenses, spend quality time together and live green in 2013 by participating in the conference, said Kristi Cooper, conference organizer and family life specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

“With this program, families meet virtually with instructors and other families to share ideas and experiences, strengthen connections with others and learn how to save money and the environment,” Cooper said.

There are two remaining sessions:

  • May 2 – Food
  • June 6 – Neighbors

Ninety percent of Iowans’ food travels an average of 1,500 miles, Cooper noted. With the food module, the conference explores food systems and discovers ways families can access high-quality, nutritious foods closer to home. In the final module, families will learn that one of the keys to sustainable living is being familiar with resources close to home, and that includes neighbors.

“With a virtual conference, people can get connected to others with similar interests without adding to their carbon footprint by driving to an event. Also, this is a way for people to create community close to where they live if they choose. They can invite their family, neighbors and friends to view the webinar together in their home,” Cooper said.

Those interested can register for the remaining two sessions for $15 per module. To register, visit http://www.extension.iastate.edu/linn/news/live-green-2013.
