Pesticide Safety Education Program

The goal of the Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) is to provide educational information throughout Iowa on the safe and effective use of pesticides. PSEP is responsible for Pesticide Applicator Continuing Instruction Courses (CIC’s) in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.Other programs that PSEP is involved in include integrated pest management, worker protection, environmental quality, and agricultural health.

Training Information and Schedules specific to Grundy County

Commercial Pesticide Continuing Instruction Courses

General Information

  • Local attendance site is the Grundy County Extension Office at 703 F Ave, Suite 1; Grundy Center, IA 50638.
  • Pre-registration is highly encouraged as space is limited to 15 attendees per session. Pre-registration cut-off for Grundy County is typically by 4:00pm the day prior to a session. Walk-ins on the day of the program will only be accepted if space is available.
  • Cost of registration: Pre-registration is $35/person. Walk-in registration is $45/person. Register by calling 319-824-6979 or email abruene@iastate.edu.
  • If you are unable to attend any of the scheduled dates for continuing instruction courses, please contact Grundy County Extension to set up an appointment.

Statewide In-Person Schedule for CICs (Fall 2022)

  • Aerial Applicators (category 11) - by appointment only
  • Forest, Aquatic, and Right-of-Way Pest Management (categories 2, 5, 6) - October 19th, at 9:00am
  • Community Insect Management & Public Health Pest Management (categories 7D, 8) - October 26th, at 9:00am (there is no statewide set date for this training, this is Grundy County's date)
  • Ornamental & Turf Applicators (categories 3O, 3T, 3OT) - November 9th, at 9:00am
  • Fumigation (category 7C) - November 15th, at 9:00am
  • Commercial Ag: Weed, Insect, Disease (categories 1A, 1B, 1C) - November 16th, at 9:00am
  • Pest Control Operators (categories 7A, 7B, 8) - December 7th, at 9:00am (registration cost for this CIC is $60/person)
  • Greenhouse & Ornamental Pest Control (categories 3G, 30) - by appointment only

  • Trainings available this fall include Ornamental/Turf, Commercial Ag, Forest/Aquatic/Right-of-Way, Greenhouse/Ornamental, Community Insect/Public Health, Seed Treatment, Fumigation, Aerial Applicators, Pest Control, and Certified Handlers.

  • Live-streamed CICs registration cost is $50 per person ($75 for Pest Control) and an earlier registration deadline
  • Live-streamed classes do have a maximum capacity, so do not wait to register.
Private Pesticide Applicator Continuing Instruction Courses

General Information

  • Private Pesticide Applicator Continuing Instruction Courses typically run from December - through April 15th. 
  • Local attendance site is typically the Grundy Center Community Center at 705 F Ave; Grundy Center, IA 50638.
  • Pre-registration is highly encouraged, but not required in Grundy County. Pre-registration cut-off for Grundy County is typically by 4:00pm the day prior to a session. Walk-ins are accepted as along as there is space available.
  • Cost of registration for the 2022 training season: $20/person. Register by calling 319-824-6979.
  • If you are unable to attend any of the scheduled dates for continuing instruction courses, please contact Grundy County Extension to arrange an appointment.
