IGQI and CIRAS Welcomes a New Staff Member

June 9, 2017

The Food Safety Modernization Act has required every food and feed processor to carefully evaluate their process systems for potential food safety hazards and effectiveness of routine operating procedures.  In response to needs expressed at many meetings and food safety training classes, Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension and the Center for Industrial Research (CIRAS) have pooled resources to hire a food and feed safety and compliance specialist to provide individualized assistance beyond the FSMA group training classes.

We are excited to announce that Kim Anderson will be joining CIRAS and the Grain Quality Initiative as a Project Manager. In her role, Kim will be responsible for developing, leading, and implementing animal and human food safety and quality programs within Iowa manufacturers, processors, and handlers. This includes efforts in the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and other certification schemes. This new position is jointly funded, and Kim will report directly to Dr. Hurburgh in the Grain Quality Initiative and as a dotted line to CIRAS.

Kim brings a wealth of experience to this position including as a food safety consultant and as an investigator for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.  Kim is in the process of relocating to Iowa from California, and will be joining the team on July 6.

Please join me in welcoming Kim to the IGQI and CIRAS teams next month!
