Citizenship Washington Focus 2021

UPDATE 10-25-2020

I was notified last week that CWF will be virtual in 2021.  I have reached out to the National 4-H Conference Center to get more information about what a virtual experience will look like.  I have also contacted the Iowa 4-H office for guidance.  At this point, I’ve not heard back from either.  The best case scenario at this point would be that we participate in the virtual event, while also traveling to Washington DC independently, but I have to wait for permission from the Iowa 4-H office to proceed because AT THIS TIME, 4-H events that span overnight are not allowed due to COVID-19.  The Youth Committee was going to choose chaperones tonight, but based on this new information, the decision was tabled.  I am so terribly disappointed, and I know you are too.  I don’t know what will happen, but I promise to TRY to make CWF 2021 happen for you.  Don’t give up on me, and I won’t give up on you.  ~Mandy

Citizenship Washington Focus is open to active Fremont County 4-H members who are scheduled to graduate in 2021, 2022 or 2023.  Requirements include:

  • Participation in the Cherry Pie Contest & Auction in 2018, 2019 and 2021.  Because of COVID-19, this requirement is being waived in 2020.
  • Work (you or a representative) in the 4-H Fair Food Stand in 2018, 2019 and 2021.  Because of COVID-19, this requirement is being waived in 2020.
  • Submit a completed record book in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
  • Exhibit a Citizenship project in 2021.
  • Maintain 4-H membership in good standing.

Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) is a 4-H leadership and civic engagement program for high school youth. Each summer teens gather at the National 4-H Conference Center to see the sites and learn what it means to be a strong leader in their community, country, and world.

Our delegation is scheduled for June 13-19, 2021.  Depending on airfare prices, we may leave a few days early, and/or stay a few days longer.

Participating in CWF is a decades-long tradition in Fremont County.  It is generously supported by the community because of its reputation for influencing youth to be engaged in their communities, their country, and their world.  Most youth who have attended claim it is their very favorite 4-H memory!

Delegates are required to submit a completed application by September 15, 2020.  Dowload the application below.

Delegates are required to pay a non-refundable deposit of $350.  The first $50 is due by September 15, 2020, with the balance due by May 17, 2021.  The trip is expected to cost $2,000 per person.  Costs will be covered by cherry pie sales, food stand proceeds, gift card sales, donations, and other fundraisers.

Meetings will be held the evenings of September 13, November 15, January 11, March 14 and May 16.  These meetings are REQUIRED and parents are encouraged to attend.  These meetings will prepare delegates for all aspects of the trip.

Chaperones will be needed for this trip.  Chaperones will be required to complete a background check, and to pay the $350 deposit with the remaining cost covered by the 4-H Youth Committee.  An application must be submitted and selections will be made by the 4-H Youth Committee.  Download the application below.
