Just in time for spring, it’s the Siouxland Garden Show on April 6 and 7 at the Hilton Garden Inn Sioux City Riverfront. The Siouxland Garden Show will feature educational sessions, a Winter Farmers Market, garden vendors, wineries, and so much more!
“We look forward to hosting the show in April this year to offer a better variety of plants and flowers to purchase from our nurseries and vendors,” said Molly Hewitt, County Director for Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach – Woodbury County. “We are proud to have twenty-four education sessions offered during the two-day show with topics to match various interests and skill levels.”
Gardeners (or gardening hopefuls!) of any skill level can grow their skills with educational sessions on topics such as gardening basics, culinary skills, insects both good and bad, landscaping, donation gardening, tree planting and more.
“I believe we have a great lineup of presenters,” said Sherry McGill, Regional Director with ISU Extension and Outreach. “There are a variety of speaker sessions and demonstrations to match anyone’s interests and experience level at this event.”
Educational speakers for the 2018 show include first-time guest Dr. Elwynn Taylor, Extension Climatologist with ISU Extension and Outreach, presenting “Weather and My Garden”, syndicated columnist and author Jan Riggenbach with “Versatile Vines” and “New Varieties of Annuals, Vegetables & Perennials”, and Kathleen Delate with the ISU Department of Horticulture presenting on organic gardening. Lisa Orgler with the ISU Department of Horticulture will present “Garden Design: Defining Your Outdoor Spaces” and she will also bring landscaping design students from ISU to give free consultations with Garden Show attendees from 11 am – 1 pm on Saturday.
Get ready for the upcoming gardening season with our selection of over 40 garden vendors. Treat yourself to something delicious at the Winter Farmers Market, and find a great local wine to pair it with at Winery Row! And make sure you bring the whole family – children 12 and under attend for free, and the Children’s Play Area has fun and educational gardening-themed activities to keep the kids entertained!
“The Siouxland Garden Show will help you grow your own gardening skills with expert knowledge, tested techniques and exciting vendor offerings,” said Carol Larvick, Nebraska Extension educator.
The entry fee is $5 per day, and children under 12 are admitted free. For more information, including a full schedule of speakers, please visit www.siouxlandgardenshow.org, or contact ISU Extension and Outreach – Woodbury County at (712) 276-2157.
