School Garden 101 Training (Sioux City)

Thursday, February 20, 2020 - 4:30pm to 7:30pm
Event Type:

Schools that want to build a strong team to start or continue to expand a school garden will benefit from a series of five classes offered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. School Gardens 101, a five-session course, will be offered this winter in Woodbury County.

School Garden 101 provides school staff with horticultural skills and shows them how to connect gardening principles to school activities. It will also help school staff work together to develop and build a school garden. Participants will also learn how to build a compost bin, test soils, plant seeds, and incorporate garden produce into classrooms and cafeterias.

School Garden 101 will be held on Thursday, February 20th, March 5th,  March 12th, March 19th, and March 26th from 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM at the Woodbury County extension office, 4728 Southern Hills Drive, Sioux City, IA 51106.

The program is intended for school teams of three to five people. The cost is $100 per team, which provides all supplies and a resource binder filled with educational materials for the classroom. The registration deadline is Friday, February 7th.

There will be Graduate credit and renewal credit available for educators through the AEA at an additional cost.
