We have been busy with camps, Omaha visit, and farmers markets these last couple of weeks!
Ebere, Joi, and I got to go to Plymouth County to help with Mad Scientist Camps and do a snack demo for the participants. We had a great time leading some of the lessons for the campers, including chemical reaction experiments, strawberry DNA, and Dash and Dot robots. We made summer bounty salad for the campers and talked about food safety, what they have in their gardens, and their favorite vegetables.
On Friday, we had the opportunity to join Region 1 in Omaha to learn about Cooper Farm and greenhouses, Metro Community College horticulture program, H.O.P.E. Gardens, and Imagine Science. The day was filled with tons of information on the programming UNL Extension has been doing with their Urban Agriculture program.
On Saturday, we were at the Sioux City Farmers’ Market doing a food demo with the summer bounty salad and recruiting more Farmers’ Market stops for Bike – N – Bite. Many people stopped by the tent to try our Summer Bounty Salad and a lot of them really enjoyed it and were surprised about how simple it was to make!
We cannot wait for what the rest of the summer has in store for us!
