Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host Joe Hannan, Commercial Horticulturist, for two coffee gatherings in Sioux City on February 7th and March 14th both starting at 9:00am. The gathers will be located at the Woodbury County Extension office, 4728 Southern Hills Dr., Sioux City, IA 51106.

These coffees are free and open to the public. Both are designed to be open discussions, so you are invited to bring topics, issues, and questions of interest. This will be an opportunity to chat with other local producers and share knowledge with each other.

The Beginning Beekeeper class will include hands-on activity of equipment use, where to obtain equipment and supplies, costs and budgeting, how to obtain bees, discussion of bee pasture, honey extraction, marketing of honey, and much more! There will also be mentors available for class attendees that are interested. The information provided should give each student the foundation to begin the activity of keeping bees. This class builds on the questions raised by the students in the class.

Join us for a cooking lesson and dinner at the Woodbury County Extension office! Nutrition and Wellness Specialist Renee Sweers will teach attendees how to cook with locally-grown fall produce. This will be followed by a dinner catered by Aggies, featuring a chicken sandwich, a side dish featuring local corn, and a salad featuring local tomatoes, onions and other fresh vegetables. A second session will be available in Onawa on September 24 - keep in touch for the details and menu!

Not a salsa maker, but a salsa connoisseur? Join us and help select the best fresh salsa!

Join Amanda Minter from Country Boutique in Rock Rapids as she shows us how to make beautiful floral arrangements using flowers and other items from the yard and garden. 

Participants need to bring a container/vase for their creation, and are encouraged to bring snips from their own yard and garden to use in their arrangement.

Tools and some flowers from the ISU Home Demonstration Garden, as well as other materials will be available to participants.
