Please tell us your name and job title.

Brian Tapp, Enterprise Development Team program manager.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Enjoy starting the day out with coffee and thinking about the projects I get to work on during the day.

How would you describe your job to a child?

I work with new or existing businesses to help them with financial analysis, market review, and management structures.

What is your biggest achievement to date, personal or professional?

I have had an opportunity to work in multiple states with a focus on community development programs including: infrastructure, transportation, revolving loan programs, workforce development, and business development. From this experience I have garnered a great appreciation of regional identifications.

What does a typical day look like for you? What are you currently working on?

I review business documents, research financials, and analyze data sets to provide benchmarks for new or existing businesses. Currently I am finishing up a hotel analysis, statewide dairy report update, an aquaculture study, and enhancing entrepreneurship training programs.

What are your biggest professional challenges?

Navigating a large organization for technical assistance and continuing to understand the dynamics of higher education.

What three words would you use to describe your role?

Analysis, Review, Educate

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

Marcus Aurelius. He served as Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD and practiced Stoic philosophy. He also practiced the four cardinal virtues: wisdom, courage, justice and temperance. From this study he wrote 12 books which are called the Meditations. They promote a focus of judgment that allows rationality and clear-mindedness.

What do you like most about your job?

Have a great group of people to work with who are energetic, encouraging, and enjoy what they do.
