Preschool Teacher Box Lessons

Farm to early care and education (F2ECE) is a set of activities that include increased access to fresh, local foods through local food procurement, gardening opportunities, and food and agriculture education activities.

In Iowa, F2ECE settings include preschools, child care centers, family child care homes, Head Start/Early Head Start, and programs in K – 12 school districts.

The nine free lessons on this page were designed by extension specialist Teresa Wiemerslage to help early care and education staff identify seasonal foods each month and teach young children about these local foods. The lessons include information about the food, a physical activity, an easy recipe to make in the classroom and other ideas for taste-tests.
